Description
Ergo Teak Pestle & Mortar
This teak pestle and mortar is ideal for everyday use, bringing natural beauty and timeless craftsmanship to your kitchen.
Whether you're crushing fresh garlic, grinding whole spices or blending a fragrant curry paste, a good pestle and mortar is one of the most useful tools you can own. This one is made from solid teak, so it's as lovely to look at as it is practical to use.
Handmade in the Heart of Bali
Each pestle and mortar is lovingly made by hand in Balinese villages, using teak from carefully managed reserves. Skilled local craftspeople shape and finish every piece, so the natural grain, colour and character of the wood shine through. As each one is made by hand from natural timber, no two are exactly alike.
Why Teak?
Teak, or Tectona grandis, is native mainly to Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar (Burma), and it's prized around the world as one of the finest hardwoods. Teak naturally contains oils that help it resist water and decay, which is why it has been used for centuries in everything from boatbuilding to fine furniture. Indonesian teak from Java is especially highly regarded by experts.
For your kitchen, that means a pestle and mortar that's durable, handsome and made to last. Treated with just a little care, it can stay with you for a lifetime and develop a richer, warmer patina as it ages.
Everyday Uses
- Grinding whole spices such as cumin, coriander and peppercorns
- Crushing garlic, ginger and fresh herbs

- Blending dressings and dips

Freshly ground spices and herbs release far more flavour and aroma than pre-ground versions, so a pestle and mortar is a simple way to bring extra depth to your cooking.
